Moderate Sedation/Analgesia ("Conscious Sedation") is a drug-induced depression of consciousness during which patients respond purposefully... to verbal commands, either alone or accompanied by light tactile stimulation. No interventions are required to maintain a patent airway, and spontaneous ventilation is adequate. Cardiovascular function is usually maintained.

Conscious Sedation Root Canal

This procedure is as follows:
- The patient is seated and vital signs are recorded.
- Monitoring equipment is connected.
- An intravenous line is started. Typically at the back of the hand or the fold of the arm.
- Sedation is started with the drug Demerol and maintained with the drug Versed.
- Endodontic procedure is performed.
- Patient is disconnected and dismissed with a responsible individual.
- There is complete amnesia of the entire event.
